where is the line crossed between serial killer and scientist?

is it when you maliciously kill another human? is it the ability to commit such a crime? are obsessive thoughts a factor?

i'm learning meticulous facts about decomposition, defleshing, trauma patterns, and various methods of disposing of a human body. these are things that should be kept a secret; that only certain people should know. people that don't have the mental capacity to commit grievous acts.
